In its eighth year at Sandown Park, the Combined Services Culinary Challenge took place over three days in October 2008, with each day dedicated to a different service.
As the flagship event for the catering teams of the Army, Air Force and Royal Navy, the CSCC gives Chefs and Stewards the opportunity to showcase their skills and compete against their service counterparts.
The 2008 show attracted world class judges including Martin Blunos, Michael Caines, Paul Gayler and Rachel Humphrey, with a special guest appearance from HRH The Countess of Wessex, who was clearly impressed with the level of expertise shown around the event.
Sandown Park’s Surrey Hall was transformed into a combination of an exhibition hall, a live theatre and a military kitchen for the challenge, which also included a Practical Theatre, Parade de Chefs, Display Salon and Skills Arena. A number of military tents were also erected in the Parade Ring area, where service personnel prepared meals using equipment mirroring that which is available to them whilst out in the field.
