SANDOWN PARK IS LORD OF THE RACING!
08/04/2008
Esher becomes the Emerald-Isle for one special day, when Sandown Park Racecourse hosts its annual Irish Day of racing on Saturday 14 June with entertainment from Irish dancers, music, and children’s Irish characters. As great racing days go, this day takes a lot of beating – the only decision you need to make is to head to Sandown Park for an experience not to be missed!
There will be live music after racing from a tribute version of one of Irelands best-loved exports – U2, which is sure to bring about a jig or two from the punters and there will be entire Irish Seas of the black stuff to enjoy at the famous Guinness trailer as well as having an Irish food theme in the Tingle Creek Restaurant.
Irish Dancers will welcome racegoers to the course with performances from the group ‘Ceolsha Dance’ whose careers incorporate the most successful stage shows in history; Michael Flatley’s Lord of The Dance and Riverdance. Performances will commence from midday when doors open.
Children will have the chance to enjoy the ‘Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks’ corner where DVD’s will be showing the latest adventures of Piggley. A story teller will be reading the adventures of Jakers! and there will be a colouring in corner as well as many other fun Jakers! activities. The word "Jakers!" is based on an Irish expression and means "wow!" or "amazing!" which Piggley and his father use to express their delight when they discover something on their adventures!
Turn up in emerald green clothing* and £5 will be taken off your entry ticket to the Grandstand enclosure.
*Emerald green clothing must constitute at least half of the visible outfit (i.e. shirt or trousers)
