SANDOWN PARK TEAM STRIDES THROUGH THE MOONWALK

The Sandown Park team of 2007 took on the challenge of walking over 26 miles last Saturday 19th May, in aid of breast cancer awareness. On this, the Moonwalks 10th anniversary, Sarah Mills, Tracy Rusbridge and Liz Shackel completed the walk in 7 hours and 20 minutes and raised in excess of £600 for such a worthy cause. Walking through some of London’s top tourist attractions the Sandown Park team were joined by some 15,000 other Moonwalkers all dressed in a variety of pink caps and decorated bras – providing an extraordinary sight for London’s Saturday night partygoers.
The Sandown Park team set off for their 26 mile walk at Hyde Park with Sarah Mills taking photos and enjoying the beautiful views of London - this soon wore off! The team managed to hit their mid-way point of Big Ben around 2am, which is closing time for some bars and clubs the team were then joined by a drunken man in his underpants! Heading towards the Tower of London with the rest of the troop of women and men in bras, this remarkable sight caused a car to crash into the back of another and with various random partygoers joining in the walk the team made it to the Tower of London by around 4am. The last stretch was a struggle although nearing the finish line, the sun started to rise over London, with this magnificent view and the end of the walk within sight the team picked up pace and crossed the finish line together at 6:24am precisely.
An exhausted team were thrilled to have completed such a big achievement and for the support received from their colleagues, family and friends. This walk was Liz Shackel’s 3rd and Tracy Rusbridge’s 2nd MoonWalk and both feel this was a great achievement although Tracy won’t be able to control her actions if Liz mentions doing the MoonWalk again! Sarah Mills added that “it was a fantastic experience but one that I will not repeat for a long time to come” It was a struggle but the girls did their friends, family and everyone at Sandown Park very proud - raising a fantastic amount of money for such an important cause.
