LOUISE OWEN FACE OF LADIES DAY AT SANDOWN PARK

08/04/2009

Louise Owen, wife of footballer Michael and a lifelong horse enthusiast, is to be the face of this year’s Coral-Eclipse Meeting at Sandown Park on Friday 3rd July and Saturday 4th July. As patron of the Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Centre, Louise has been involved with horses for most of her life, and keeps a number of horses   at the stables at her home in North Wales.

Louise is a keen racegoer with both Louise and Michael owning racehorses that are trained locally at Manor House Stables, and admits to feeling most at home when she visits with Michael and their three children. Louise took to the saddle when she was seven and her first pony, Rolo, arrived when she was 14. Following a horrendous accident whilst riding at home five years ago, Louise felt that she wanted to give something back and became Patron of the Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Centre in Lancashire, a charity which she feels particularity close to.

Following a glamorous photoshoot on location at Sandown Park with Louise, who was wearing a selection of outfits from designers Matthew Williamson, Diane von Furstenburg and Luella supplied by Bernard of Esher, the images produced capture the glamour of raceday and the contrasting element between the silks of the ladies’ dresses and the satins of the jockeys’ colours, a unique vision which captures the very essence of the Sport of Kings.

Talking about her involvement with Sandown Park, Louise commented, “I am really excited to be involved with such a prestigious raceday, where not only is there exciting racing, but so much more; the Best Dressed Ladies Competition, the Style Stable and all the excitement and glamour of the ladies dressed up to the nines, enjoying a fantastic day out. I am thoroughly looking forward to being at Sandown Park for Coral-Eclipse Day.”

Coral-Eclipse Day is the biggest social occasion on the Sandown Park calendar, as the day is also Ladies Day. There is plenty of entertainment for all female racegoers, with the competitive Best Dressed Ladies Competition taking place during the afternoon. Girls can also pamper and spoil themselves in the Style Stable where Aveda Redchat will massage those tired shoulders and offer manicures whilst complimentary make-up touch-ups will be provided.

The highlight on the track is the principle race of the Flat season at Sandown Park, the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse, worth an impressive £500,000. It is one of the oldest races staged in Britain; the inaugural running of the race was back in 1886, 123 years ago.
