SINGER, CHEF, FASHION ICON AND NOW FACE OF SANDOWN'S PARK LADIES DAY
01/05/2011
Best known as one third of Britain’s most successful girl group of the noughties: Atomic Kitten and winner of Celebrity Masterchef 2008, Liz McClarnon has been revealed as the official ‘face’ for Sandown Park Racecourse’s Coral-Eclipse Day, also known as Ladies Day on Saturday 2nd July.
Liz first came to the public attentions when Atomic Kitten was formed in 1998 and their first single Whole Again hit number 1 in 2001. This now infamous anthem sold over a million copies in the UK and stayed at the top spot for 4 weeks as well as being top of the charts in 17 countries. Atomic Kitten went on to have 15 top 10 singles in the UK including 3 number 1’s and selling 10 million records worldwide.
More recently Liz has been back on our screens for an altogether different reason – swapping microphone for apron, she embarked on a new challenge when she entered ‘Celebrity Masterchef’. Her natural culinary ability and hard work helped her win the title of Celebrity Masterchef 2008. Making the most of her cooking success Liz went onto present and feature on LK today (her own 4 week cookery slot), This Morning, Ready Steady Cook, Market Kitchen and cook Christmas Dinner for the BBC Breakfast presenters! Liz’s first cookbook will hit the shelves in 2011, the same time as her own cookery range.
It was only a matter of time before Liz fronted her own TV show and last year she did just that for BBC3. ‘Hotter than my Daughter’ debuted in February 2010 surpassing everyone’s expectations and gaining viewers each week.
She hasn’t quit the studio either, where she has been working away and taking her time to make an album she is proud of. Writing and recording with many top producers, the album will also feature tracks given to Liz by Bryan Adams and Michael Bolton.
Commenting on her role, Liz said, “At the moment I am learning to play Polo and have really enjoyed spending time with the horses. When this opportunity came up to be the face for Ladies Day at Sandown Park it was the perfect fit for me to get dressed up and be around horses. I am really looking forward to being a judge for the Best Dressed Lady Competition and seeing all the glamour that will be there on the day, and also watching the fantastic racing that is on offer.”
The famous Group 1 Coral-Eclipse race is a jewel in our crown and the highlight of one of the finest flat racing days in the country. This year, the sheer glamour of the race will continue to set the tone of the meeting, which is also Sandown Park’s annual Ladies Day. The gorgeous Liz McClarnon will judge the competitive Best Dressed Ladies Competition and girls can pamper and spoil themselves in the Style Stable where complimentary beauty treatments will be provided throughout the day.
The day epitomizes glamour, for both the guys and the girls, a great excuse to get dressed up and enjoy a drink of two while watching the fantastic action from the track with music and entertainment fitting to our annual style extravaganza.
