Mayonnaise and peanut M&M’s – fueling Britain’s top jockeys
Indulging in guilty pleasures is not usually on the cards for jockeys; having to adhere to tough weight restrictions within a strict healthy eating regime, however, even they have cravings - some more unusual than others - and now Sandown Park has created a set of unique dishes, satisfying the desires of some of the country’s top jockeys.
Diners in the Tingle Creek Restaurant during the afternoon racing at Sandown Park on Friday 20 February will enjoy a menu, created by Sodexo Prestige Executive Chef, Steve Golding, which has been inspired by past and present jockeys’ ‘quirky food habits.’
Champion Jockey Tony McCoy, confesses to enjoying mayonnaise with almost anything, while Andrew Thornton loves nothing more than peanut M&Ms. More unusually, Italian hard cheese dipped in honey, is the secret craving of ex-jockey, Richard Dunwoody.
Here is just a taster of what the jockeys said and the menu that was created around their desires,
| Jockey | Craving | Steve Golding's creation |
|---|---|---|
| AP McCoy | Mayonnaise | Jockeys Club Sandwich |
| Andrew Thornton | Peanut M&Ms | Iced Peanut butter and M&M Parfait |
| Mark Bradburne | Strong Cheese | Antipasti with Sweet and Sour Roquefort |
| Timmy Murphy | Fillet Steak | Steak and Chips |
| Sam Thomas | Pic and Mix Sweets | Pic and Mix Bag and coffee |
