Sandown Park
HRH The Duchess of Cornwall is to be a guest of Sandown Park Racecourse on Friday 17th February for the Royal Artillery Gold Cup Day, supporting Help for Heroes. This will be her first official visit to the racecourse in Esher, Surrey.
On a day with a strong military theme, Her Royal Highness will be greeted by the Master Gunner of The Royal Artillery on arrival before being taken to meet many of the Military personnel present on the day. She will also get the opportunity to meet Michael Murpurgo, author of the bestselling novel and Hollywood Blockbuster, War House as well as a personal performance from last year’s Christmas Number 1, the Military Wives Choir. Her Royal Highness will also be presenting the winning connections of the Royal Artillery Gold Cup race with their prizes.
David Mackinnon, Managing Director of Sandown Park Racecourse says, “We are very honoured to be graced by a visit from HRH The Duchess of Cornwall to our most historical race meeting at the racecourse, which was first run in 1863. I know that High Royal Highness has a great passion for the work that the armed forces do so it is appropriate that she will be present to celebrate this.”
The Royal Artillery Gold Cup Day falls during half term and what better what to entertain your family during this week then to come racing at Sandown Park. Before events commence there will be a military parade in Esher High Street at 10.30am starting from the car park near the Police Station. This promises to be a truly spectacular event with top class military racing followed by a performance from the much loved War Horse puppet Topthorn in the Parade Ring. The Military Wives Choir will perform twice during the day singing their no. 1 single ‘Wherever you are’.
