YOU'LL BE LAUGHING UNTIL YOU'RE 'HORSE'!
01/01/2010
Comedy returns to Sandown Park Racecourse on Saturday 6th February, Totesport Masters Day where the hugely popular Comedy Store will be hosting another hilarious Comedy show. After the racing, a bill of three brilliant stand-up comedians will take to the stage to create an atmosphere of happy hilarity while you enjoy a drink or two in the company of friends and colleagues. Performing three live 20 minute acts after the day’s racing, the racecourse is proud to announce the following top comedians:
1. Ranked amongst the top ten stand-ups in Britain by The Independent, Ian Stone is one of the most talented topical acts and comperes on the circuit. Edgy and provocative, with an easy-going manner and self-depreciating style, Ian is at great ease bantering with an audience. His many television appearances include Mock The Week (BBC 2), Never Mind The Buzzcocks (BBC 2), The Stand-Up Show (BBC 1), Saturday Live (ITV), Live at Jongleurs (ITV) & The 11 O'clock Show (CH4). Ian is a commissioned writer for The Omid Djalili show on BBC1 and has written gags for The Sketch Show on ITV1 and Alistair McGowan's Big Impression (BBC 1).
2. Mike Gunn’s history is as interesting and entertaining as his comedy. His lugubrious comedy has been described as ‘drier than a dead man’s bones’. He has a rare ability to walk close to the line of what audiences find acceptable and yet still remain likable and funny. Television appearances include The Gas (CH4), The Comedy Store (LWT), Live At Jongleurs (CH5), and Al Murray’s sit-com ‘Time Gentlemen Please’.
On the face of it, it’s not a funny subject but Mike likens being an addict to “treading on a rake and getting bashed in the face…time after time.
3. Lee ‘Nelsy’ Nelson is an irrepressible, self-appointed South London ‘legend’ who educates his audiences with his views on relationships, gang life, and fatherhood…. “I was too young when I become a dad - it was well awkward going to the same school.” He is currently making his own television series for BBC Three. To ensure your entry to the comedy store, we strongly advise you book your tickets in advance as last year both our comedy events sold out. (Note to parents: the show is of an adult nature and under 18s will not be permitted).
The highlight race of the day is undoubtedly the Grade 1 toteswinger Challengers Chase, but there is also a strong supporting card, including the Heroes Handicap, which will no doubt provide some great action for both racing and the more casual racegoer to enjoy. Like many of the major races at Sandown Park, the Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase has been dominated by the Champion Trainer Paul Nicholls, who has won the race for the last four years. Last year saw Herecomesthetruth win under Ruby Walsh and the horse has since gone on to win at the highest level this season over in Ireland and is highly thought of by his connections.
Tickets booked in advance are £15 for Grandstand and £20 for Premier and there is a comedy show supplement of £5 which you are strongly advised to pre-book.
